Our newest version of our very popular Micro USB Lamp Kit allows you to build an economic mains powered lamp that takes power from a standard Micro USB phone charger (available separately). The previous version was built using a breakout board, V2.0 features a board designed specifically for purpose which means that the kit is now much neater and easier to build.

The kit comprises a very bright 1W Power LED which connects (with the cable provided) to a PCB that has a power switch, Micro USB connector and power resistor.

All that is required to assemble the kit is to connect the LED to the desired length of cable and solder the other end of the cable, the resistor, and the switch to the board.

Features:

  • Easy to build lamp kit.
  • Ultra-bright 1W Power LED.

Q Hi, Can you swap the switch in this kit for a variable resistor to enable dimming? Thanks
Asked by william harding on January 29, 2018 12:00 am
Answered by the admin Hi William, In theory yes you could as long as the potentiometer had a high enough A rating to cope, typically the LED can pull 310mA so it would need to be rated higher than this. However what you would likely find is that it will dim the LED slightly, then just turn it off and wouldn't operate as a normal dimming function as LDs don't dim well.

Answered by the admin Hi Jo, If you are referring to the power cable that is shown in the photo then it is this product, https://www.kitronik.co.uk/2208-5v-1a-micro-usb-uk-mains-wall-power-supply.html. If you mean the cable that connects the power LED star to the board then this is the cable, https://www.kitronik.co.uk/2448-figure-8-speaker-cable-2x-7x018mm-100m-reel.html.
