This 5V LED lamp module offers a really bright light, which is compact and easy to mount. The unit is supplied with 9 white super flux LEDs, which collectively output around 16,000 mCd.

The unit incorporates current limit resistors, allowing it to be run from a 5V supply or 3 x AA batteries can be used (3 new batteries will last for around 5 hours).

The module makes a nice desk lamp when powered from our micro USB power supply (used to charge many phones, tablets and e-readers) which can be done by using our micro USB break out board.

    Answered by the admin Hi Phil, Thank you for your email, you could do that but it would not last very long I am afraid as most 9V batteries do not hold a lot of charge and I suspect you would run most of them down in 1-2 hours. Best Regards Cullen

    Answered by the admin Hi there, These style LEDs could be soldered in a strip with connecting wires but while soldered into this kit they would operate as per the grid. Best Regards Cullen

    Answered by the admin Hi Daniel, We don't have the exact life span of the LEDs used in this kit from our supplier, however typically LEDs have a very large life span. Some LEDs even have life spans of up to 50,000 hours. As such you should likely get quite a large amount of life out of the LEDs.
  8. Are the resistors correct in the picture? The resistors in the picture appear to be brown, black, black, gold which would be 10 Ohms. If they are 33 Ohms, they should be orange, orange, black, gold.

    Answered by the admin Hi, yes it is fine to be used with the USB cable (code 4101), you would solder the black and red cable directly to the negative and positive connection on the board. Unfortunately it isn't possible to purchase this item pre-built, however as you are from a school we may be able to arrange this if the quantity is large enough. If you email our sales team we will be able to look into this for you.

    Answered by the admin Hi Haytham, The LEDS that are used in this kit are these 3597-white-super-flux-5mm-water-clear-led-80deg-1800mcd they are not classed as energy saving but the maximum current that they draw is 20mA each, so the whole circuit only draws 180mA’s, this only works out to be 0.9Watts of power.

    Answered by the admin Hi Tas, You could run multiple circuits off one 5V power supply. However you would need to connect these in parallel so that each circuit got a supply of 5V’s, and a split of the available current. You would also need to make sure the power supply is rated to a high enough current draw for the amount of circuits you are connecting. Each circuit draws 175mA maximum at 5V’s, so 2 circuit could run off a 5V 500mA supply, 3-5 could run off a 5V 1A supply and so on.

    Answered by the admin Hi Martin, The desk lamp kit take a power source ranging from 2.5V - 5.5V and at 5V’s it will draw 175mA. It would be difficult to use a super capacitor kit which has been charged by a solar cell. The kit draws a fairly high current, and a super capacitor won’t provide a steady voltage. It is difficult to provide an estimation of how well this would work as I don’t know what capacitor or solar cell you are using. You would likely be better with solar cells and rechargeable batteries.

    Answered by the admin The LED’s used on these kits don’t generate any more heat than a standard Led, as such they would be fine in a PVC case.

    Answered by the admin Yes it you would be able to use an LDR to trigger the circuit, the easiest way to do this would be to use the light activation circuit and connect the 5V desk lamp kit to the output on the board 2112-light-activated-switch

    Answered by the admin A USB port outputs 5V’s, so yes you could connect the USB lead to this desk lamp kit.

    Answered by the admin We sell yellow Super Flux LEDs, which may be better for you. Alternatively any LED that will run at 3.2V will work though they won't fit as nicely as this board was designed for the four legged footprint of the Super Flux LEDs.

    Answered by the admin Yes you could use the point on a transistor where it is between fully on and fully off to limit the amount of current going into the LED light. By altering the current flow the brightness of the LEDs would be adjusted. You might need to change the resistor values in our dimmer light application note but the concept will be the same
