These Frosted Clear 0.5mm Polypropylene Sheets are suitable for a wide range of D&T applications. These sheets let light through but have a frosted finish, which is good for diffusing light. One surface of the sheet has a fine sand finish and the other has an orange emboss (anti-glare) finish.

The 0.5mm gauge makes the sheets flexible and therefore ideal for products requiring a curved finish. They are also static treated to minimise dust attraction.

Polypropylene sheets are often used to make products such as office stationery, folders, files, covers, signs, lamps, lightings, jewellery, fashion accessories, etc.

Working with Polypropylene:

These Polypropylene sheets can be cut safely on a laser cutter (please note the edges will be slightly ‘burred’ and do not appear ‘polished’ like Perspex) and unlike PVC they do not create any chlorine gas. The sheets can also be cut using a sharp knife. You can crease the material using a cold or hot creasing technique. The resulting ‘hinges’ can be folded many times without the material breaking.

Questions and answers

Hi, I'm making my own binder cover and was wondering what's the best way to get a clean, straight edge fold on this sheet? Should I gently score a line with a craft knife first, or will that weaken it and cause it to tear? Thanks

Answered by the admin Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for your question, you can cold crease the sheets by just folding them. You should not need to score it with a craft knife.

  2. Why must this material be stored at a temp. of 20 degrees C up to 25 degrees C at least 24 hours before printing? I want to offset print on this from a plywood relief block with AKUA intaglio water washable inks in my studio at home. My studio does not reach this temperature!

Answered by the admin Hi Doreen, I have checked with our supplier today regarding the reason for this and they have advised the following: The reason for the polypropylene to be left for 24 hours before printing is so the material can normalise and be ready for printing due to circumstances such as, when left overnight with carriers which can make the material cooler and in some cases cause the material to crack.
As such if the material has been allowed to return to the normal temperature in the working environment it could be ok to use, however we would always recommend following any recommendation by manufactures.
  4. Please could you explain what an orange emboss (anti glare) finish is? Does it effect the colour of the transmitted light?

Asked by Jonathan on December 19, 2017 12:00 am
Answered by the admin Hi Jonathan, The colour of the light isn't altered however it is diffused, so it is a soft glow that appears through the sheet rather than a direct light source. The anti-glare listed will relate to creating this soft glow and prevents the light being bright.

Answered by the admin Hi Alex, The datasheet and material datasheet for the product supplied by the manufacture state that the melting point is around 160°C, with the Vicat softening point being around 145°C. Unfortunately this is the only data we have regarding the material and heat.
