This is a conductive knit fabric for use in e-textiles. It is silver-plated nylon that is stretchy in one direction. It is highly conductive with a surface resistivity of < 5 ohm/sq. This is a great add-on to any LilyPad project. Medtex 180 Ag Nylon single directional stretch.

If you aren’t sure what to do with conductive fabrics, check out some of these Instructables.

Features:

  • It’s conductive!
  • Easily sew electronic features into your next project.
  • Great for use with the LilyPad or our Electro-Fashion range.

Questions and answers

Hello, we are interested in your conductive stretch fabric (product code : 2717). Would you mind telling me more about the resistance of this knit, original resistance, the change of resistance when it is stretched (ohm/cm or mm) and especially what's the minimum current / distance it can detect. If I can have a stretch VS force curve, that would be so helpful too.thank you

Answered by the admin Hello Wassim, The resistance of the fabric doesn't alter much, we measured around a 10% difference from when the material was stretched to when it was under no strain. The surface resistance on average is <5 Ohms/sq. The material should be able to detect low current passing through as normally it would be used is low current circuits. Unfortunately we don't have a graph with the required information and the only datasheet we have been provided is this one, https://www.kitronik.co.uk/pdf/2717-Conductive-Fabric-Stretch.pdf.

Asked by Barry Martindale on May 4, 2016 12:00 am
Answered by the admin We currently are unable to obtain the conductive fabric in a larger size. However you would be able to connect two pieces together, as long as they were tightly held together the fabric would conduct. You could use normal thread, conductive thread or even conductive Velcro to secure the pieces together.

Answered by the admin The conductive fabric can be used to connect components together, however you would need to connect the components to the conductive fabric using the conductive thread.

Answered by the admin Hi, unfortunately at the moment this is the only size we have. We are currently looking into expanding this range with larger pieces though.
