Fashion Embroidery & Stitch Show – Julie Boyd

Our friend Julie Boyd, an experienced Design & Technology Consultant, recently exhibited at the Fashion, Embroidery & Stitch Show at the NEC in Birmingham. This was her 3rd Year at the show and was her busiest year to date! Here is a brief overview of what she got up to.

Kitronik sponsored a number of mini E-textiles Workshops and demonstrations during the day to give a taste of the applications of E-textiles including Kitronik’s own PCB LEDs to make LED fabric torches, cuffs and decorative torches.

Her stand also featured a 3D printer to display the capabilities of 3D printing in the classroom aimed at D&T Teachers but was very popular with people who had not seen one before in use. It was particularly interesting to see the relevance of 3D printing in an e-textiles context.

Julie also ran a prize-draw over the four days where the prize was a copy of the “The Design Student’s Handbook” by Jane Bartholomew and Steve Rutherford for the D&T Teachers who attended. A runner-up in Julie’s very own postcard competition; Jessica Lloyd won the overall design competition for schools.

It is really good seeing entrepreneurs like Julie succeeding and harnessing the power of LED circuits in her designs with the addition of 3D printing being applied in so many applications.
