This Opaque Perspex Acrylic Sheet measures 600mm x 400mm (A4) (nominal). The surface of the sheets has a high gloss finish. You cannot see through opaque Perspex sheets meaning they can be used in designs/products to provide areas of solid colour.

Applications:

Opaque Perspex acrylic sheets have many applications such as point of sale, model making, signs, artistic and architectural installation, casings, etc.

Working with Perspex acrylic sheets:

Perspex is a versatile material that can be cut, drilled, laser cut and thermoformed.

Perspex is a thermoplastic which means that when it is heated above 140-180°C it becomes flexible. This allows the material to be formed into the required shape or bent. Once the material cools below 85°C it becomes rigid again.

Perspex sheets are often shaped using a CNC router or laser cutter. The edge of laser cut Perspex has a pleasing polished look. If you look carefully at the edge of a piece of laser cut Perspex you can often see slight vertical lines that are caused by the pulses a laser uses when cutting.

If you want to get a perfectly smooth finish on the edge of piece of machined Perspex a polishing technique can be used. Typical polishing techniques include diamond polishing and flame polishing.

It also possible to etch the surface of a Perspex sheet using a laser cutter. This can produce some very pleasing visual effects. The Perspex sheets have a protective film on both faces. If you are etching the material then this should be removed from the surface that is to be etched. If you are just laser cutting then this film can be left in place (if you wish) as it does not create any harmful gases when it is laser cut (unlike PVC).

More detailed information and resources on working with Perspex can be found in our resource section.

Q Hi, do you do the white perspex sheet in 400mm x 400mm ??
Asked by Rebecca Rayner on March 22, 2013 12:00 am
Answered by the admin We can provide Perspex in 400 x 400mm. However as it would be cut down to size here there may be a margin of error of about 5mm. It might end up 400x395 or 400x405. Alternatively I can cut a square of 396x396mm from the original sheet which will be more accurate but not quite 400x400mm. It depends on what you need.

Answered by the admin It is possible to work with the Perspex by both cutting and drilling it. However if you are going to cut or drill care should be taken to make sure the sheet is secured and not put under pressure when working with it as it is possible to crack the material. If you drill the corners in to some scrap wood then it should be fine. Do not hang the corners over the edge of a work top and drill them unsupported. The sheet is covered with protective film which should be left on whilst drilling.

Asked by mr mcneil on November 22, 2011 12:00 am
Answered by the admin The picture is of a sample swatch piece of Perspex which is much smaller than the actual sheet. The product doesn't have a hole in it and has square corners. The price for every product is shown to the right of it in the green / blue table.
