This solid core cable/wire is a 16SWG single-strand pre-tinned, soft, uninsulated copper wire with a nominal core diameter of 1.63mm. It is supplied in 500g reels with an approximate wire length of 25m.

The pre-tinned wire is much easier to solder than bare copper wires, making it ideal for rapidly repairing tracks, or acting as a jumper/shorting link on a PCB. The wire is rated for 65A and can be used as fuse wire.

This wire is also used for making loops in sun-catchers, tags for leaded windows, stiffening weak designs, and other craft uses. A simple way to make your hoops/rings. Wrap your wire around a pen or pencil several times creating a spiral effect (not overlapping) and then pull the spiral off the pen/pencil and simply snip with a pair of wire cutters up one side of the spiral. Hey presto, you’ve got yourself some rings/hoops.

The tinning protects the wire from oxidation/corrosion, giving some weather protection when used in craft items that are kept outdoors. These reels of 16SWG single-strand pre-tinned, copper wire are fully RoHS compliant.

Questions and answers

Hi there, I'm converting an old 1970s radio in order to play MP3s from it. I'm using your iPod deluxe stereo amplifier pre-built kit. Would this wire be all right for soldering, etc. for these purposes? The instructions I'm following (for a much older radio) says I need 22 gauge copper wire. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
